SHOWFLAT is a new work commissioned by Sheffield Contemporary Art Forum, Sheffield as one of the six commissions for Art Sheffield 03.

SHOWFLAT aims to question culture- led regeneration by examining the future planning and redevelopment of Sheffield. The artists pre-empt the inevitable by redeveloping their studio into a SHOWFLAT.

A sign for a show flat in Sheffield’s Devonshire Quarter is pretty commonplace but the name of the agents, Hewitt & Jordan may be unfamiliar. That’s because they are not estate agents but artists and the SHOWFLAT is an installation they are exhibiting as part of the citywide Art Sheffield 03 event.

Within their studio at S1 Artspace in Trafalgar Court, Milton Street, they have replicated a contemporary studio apartment “to subvert, confuse and question the intimacies of urban design within a critical art practice”.’ Ian Souter, Sheffield Property Guide, Friday March 28 2003, pg 52.

An accompanying publication is being produced together with SITE Gallery, Sheffield and funded by University of Wolverhampton and Arts Council England.

SHOW FLAT is open by appointment until the end of July 2003. Telephone: Mel & Andy on 07900 524748 or e-mail mel& to view the property.
